S.S. Seward Student Council Holds Veteran’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony

The SS Seward HS Student Council held their annual Veteran’s Day Flag Raising Ceremony on November 10th. The event included the entire student body, as well as several local veterans who came out to speak to the students about service. Student Council President Joshua Medina greeted the student body and introduced the Seward Select Choir, under the direction of Mark Visconti who sang a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem. Assistant Principal Amanda Collins spoke about service and how we need to honor those that made the sacrifice to serve their country and community before introducing our local veterans. Once finished, the students came up and shook the hands of each Veteran to thank them for their service.

Leading up to this, the HS Student Council held their annual flag sponsorship fundraiser. Members of the school and community dedicated and sponsored flags to veterans they know, such as parents, children, siblings, friends, and many more. The student council raised $930 which was donated to two organizations that support veterans. Half went to the Wounded Warrior Project and half went to the local Village of Florida VFW.

The Student Council would like to thank the MS Student Council for organizing the breakfast for our veterans and their families, the custodial and security staff, Administration, especially Assistant Principal Amanda Collins and Interim Superintendent Dana Castine, and all of the Veteran’s that came out to speak!
