Florida UFSD Update- Spring 2023

Dear Florida Union Free School District Community,

This time of year brings multiple memorable occasions as students embark on new journeys and others celebrate the final events of their Florida UFSD years. As we quickly approach the last few months of this school year, it is important to make note of a 2022-23 student calendar update and call your attention to a few upcoming events.

Friday, May 26, 2023- District Closed (2022-23 Student Calendar Update):
On April 20, 2023, the Board of Education revised the 2022-23 District calendar, giving back one unused emergency (snow) day. On Friday, May 26, the District office and schools will be closed, extending the Memorial Day weekend.

Thursday, May 4, 2023, 7:00pm, S.S. Seward Cafetorium- Budget Hearing:
At their last business meeting, the Board of Education unanimously adopted a proposed $25,328,514 budget for the 2023-24 school year. The interim superintendent and business office staff will present the proposed district budget, which maintains all current student programs and services.

Tuesday, May 9, 2023, 7:00pm, Golden Hill Cafeteria- PTA/PTSA Budget Presentation & Meet the School Board Candidates Forum:
Business office staff and the interim superintendent will provide the Florida community with a second presentation of the 2023-24 proposed budget. The Meet the School Board Candidates Forum will immediately follow the proposed budget presentation. The PTA/PTSA organized an informative evening in order for residents to learn more about the proposed budget and Board candidates.

Tuesday, May 16, 2023, School Budget Vote & School Board Elections:
Polls are open from 6:00am to 9:00pm. The annual District Showcase/Ice Cream Social will also be held at S. S. Seward Institute from 6:00pm to 8:00pm where you can take the opportunity to view amazing student work and enjoy a sweet treat, courtesy of the PTA/PTSA. The annual budget newsletter will be mailed to all residents in early May. Additionally, residents will elect one member to the Board of Education for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2026. Candidates, in ballot order, are:

Leslie Hill (incumbent)
Stephen Caldwell
