Bus accident causes minor injuries at Golden Hill Elementary School

Dear Florida Union Free School District families:

Today (Sept. 7), at approximately 3:27 p.m., a school bus leaving the Golden Hill Elementary School parking lot hit a lamp post. There were 26 students on the bus.

Six students were taken by ambulance to area hospitals to be treated for reportedly minor injuries. The bus was from the Student Bus Company of Spring Valley. The bus driver is also being treated at an area hospital. None of the injuries are life-threatening.

All students were escorted off the bus into the school cafeteria. They were evaluated by the school nurse and EMT. Parents were notified and given the option to pick up their child and a new bus was sent to Golden Hill to provide non-injured students transportation home.

A crisis team will be available all day for students and families in the Golden Hill cafeteria beginning at 8:30 tomorrow morning (Sept. 8).

Nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our students, and the factors that led to this accident will be carefully investigated and evaluated. Our school bus teams undergo rigorous training and follow strict compliance protocols to ensure safe transportation every day. We will redouble efforts to ensure safe transportation and provide updates as warranted.

Thank you.
