Florida Union Free School District has been awarded two Fuel Up Equipment Grants on behalf of GENYOUth and American Dairy Association North East. These grants, which are valued at $2,000 each, will provide a “Healthy Start Smoothie Cart” for Golden Hill Elementary and two “Mobile Meal Carts” for S.S. Seward Institute.
Equipped with a 16” immersion blender, two mixing buckets, a 60 oz pitcher and more, the Healthy Start Smoothie Cart will be a key tool in providing students with nutritious and mindful eating. Through convenient and delicious dairy products, students at Golden Hill will have access to protein and calcium rich options during their breakfast and lunch times.
The two Mobile Meal Carts will have eight serving bins, insulated GoBoxes, and an insulated merchandiser to house quick and healthy meal/snack options for students at S.S. Seward Institute to enjoy during their busy days.
“We’re so excited to be able to offer these additional options to students,” said Superintendent Lisamarie Spindler. “We hope this will encourage students to take advantage of the free breakfast program in addition to the lunch program.”
Since 2010, Fuel Up has funded 26,000 schools with a mission of fueling healthy bodies and minds (Fuel Up, 2024). Through a variety of partnerships, programs, and grants, Fuel Up aims to inspire wellness for students, educators, and our planet. Students will not only learn about the importance of nourishing their bodies with dairy-rich foods, but will learn about where their food comes from and the importance of locally sourced ingredients.
“Students will have more convenient access to healthy options and balanced meals,” Spindler said. “We’re thankful to Fuel Up for helping us add these great additions to our dining experience for students.”
The Healthy Start Smoothie Cart and Mobile Meal Carts will become an available option for students during meal times for the 2025-26 school year. The carts will feature seasonal options and ingredients, meaning every meal and snack will be fresh, nutritious and delicious.
