Welcome back, updates from Superintendent Jan Jehring

Dear Florida Union Free School District School Community,

Welcome back to school. We are happy to have students return to remote instruction. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to impact our school community. Here are some updates.

COVID-19:  We have been notified that over the Winter Recess there were three positive cases reported:

  • An employee at Golden Hill Elementary School
  • An employee at SS. Seward
  • A student at Golden Hill Elementary School.

In all three situations, the individuals were not in the buildings during the infectious periods and no school contacts were identified.

Thank you for understanding that due to medical privacy laws, we are restricted from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information related to COVID-19.

In addition, due to the spread of COVID-19 in the region, exposure to the virus has required several individuals to be quarantined. We encourage you to follow the guidance of the Orange County Department of Health, including washing hands with soap and water, wearing a mask, avoiding gatherings and staying home when ill to help limit the spread.

Instruction: Instruction will be held remotely until Tuesday, Jan. 19 when in-person instruction is scheduled to resume.

Out-of-District Programs: Students who attend out-of-district placements will follow the schedule of the programs they attend.

These are challenging and uncertain times. We are proceeding cautiously with the health and welfare of our students and staff always at the forefront. We thank you for your vigilance.

I wish you a happy and healthy new year.

Sincerely,

Jan Jehring, Superintendent of Schools
