Updates regarding the pause of in-person instruction, positive case at Seward

Dear Florida Union Free School Community,

Here are some additional updates related to the upcoming pause of in-person instruction and the positive COVID-19 case at Seward.

S.S. Seward Institute: All students and employees who are considered direct or proximate contacts of a positive case of COVID-19 were notified this afternoon. Since we have a large number of students and employees who are currently under quarantine, S.S. Seward will transition to remote learning starting Tuesday, Nov. 24 through Friday, Dec. 11.

Students who attend CTEC programming will also participate through remote instruction.

Special Education Programs at BOCES and out of district locations: These programs will operate remotely starting Monday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 11.

School Meals: Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all students. Meals will be provided Tuesday, Nov. 24 and Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

After the Thanksgiving recess, meals will be provided from 11 to 11:45 a.m.  at S.S. Seward for pickup on the following days:

  • Monday, Nov. 30
  • Wednesday, Dec. 2
  • Friday, Dec. 4
  • Monday, Dec. 7
  • Wednesday, Dec. 9
  • Friday, Dec. 11

During this two week period of remote instruction, parents may request delivery. The order form is here and in the alert bar on the district website.

YMCA Club Kid at Golden Hill Elementary School: During the two-week period of remote instruction Nov. 30-Dec. 11 and Jan. 4-15, the YMCA will expand the before- and after-school program to a full-day program. Letter from Dr. Gelman, Orange County Department of Health: Here is the letter the district received from the Orange County Department of Health that includes recommendations to address the rise of the infection rate in Orange County. The Florida Union Free School District Board of Education took these recommendations into account when deciding to pause in-person instruction for the two weeks following the Thanksgiving Recess and the Winter Recess.
