Two Florida seniors honored for achievement in arts, humanities

Two members of S.S. Seward’s Class of 2018 were among those recognized at the fifth annual Senior Scholar Humanities Breakfast hosted by Orange-Ulster BOCES on April 26.

Seniors from districts across Orange County who have distinguished themselves in the humanities came together at Kuhl’s Highland House in Middletown to be honored for their significant achievements in the arts and humanities. The students, their parents, teachers, high school principals and superintendents were invited to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments/performances in the arts including fine arts, theater, music and more.

The award recipients from S.S. Seward Institute are:

Christian Deas

Christian will attend SUNY Cortland this fall with a major in musical theater. He is currently a senior Chess Club member and is president of the Drama Club and part of the set building team. Christian stage directs for Florida’s middle school productions and wa selection All-Section for Varsity class C/D soccer this year.
Christian has performed in six productions at S.S. Seward and also performed in shows outside of school. He is currently in rehearsal for two shows that will be presented in the coming months.

Theresa Bailey

Theresa will attend SUNY Orange this fall and will major in business to pursue her dream of opening her own business. She is vice president of S.S. Seward’s chapter of the National Honor Society, vice president of the Art Club, and she ranks third in her graduating class.
During her four years in high school she has played Varsity Soccer and Varsity Basketball. She is an active member of her church community, and after school she babysits. In her free time she enjoys doing artwork.
