Superintendent Jan Jehring announces her retirement

Dear students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators,

It is with mixed emotions, that I announce my retirement from the Florida Union Free School District effective August 1, 2021.  I have been involved in schools and serving students as an educator, counselor, principal and superintendent for 37 years.

As I reflect on my time in the Florida UFSD, I share in the immense community pride of the schools. Student achievement has continued to rise and stands strong in the region.  The community has demonstrated support for the District and has successfully passed budgets and capital improvement projects. Most importantly the community has celebrated our students’ success and shared support in our times of challenge and sadness.

Under the Board of Education’s strong leadership, our students, parents, administrators, faculty and staff have worked together to reopen our schools five days per week in as safe a manner as possible during the pandemic.  Extraordinary efforts and creative approaches have been taken by the faculty and staff to serve students and provide social interactions, athletic opportunities and learning experiences during an uncertain time.

I thank the members of the Board of Education for their vision, ongoing support and the opportunity to serve as superintendent. I have been fortunate to work with a committed team of administrators, faculty and staff to carry out this important work. I thank the parents and students for your involvement, cooperation and patience as we have navigated unprecedented challenges.

The process to search for the next superintendent will begin immediately and details will be announced in the coming weeks. I look forward to the continued success of the Florida Union Free School District.

Jan Jehring, Superintendent of Schools
