Seward students move to remote instruction Friday, March 19 with COVID-19 positive case, quarantines

Dear Florida Union Free School District community,

Please review this letter for a COVID-19 notification and an announcement about the S.S. Seward instructional program for Friday, March 19.

We have been notified of two positive cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

  1. An S.S. Seward student tested positive. After consultation with the Orange County Department of Health, the students and staff who were determined to have proximate or close contact with the positive individual are in the process of being contacted today and will be instructed to quarantine for 10 days from the last date of contact.
  2. An S.S. Seward student who was not in attendance tested positive. There are no proximate or close contacts from the school in this case.

Thank you for understanding that due to medical privacy laws, we are not able to release the names of individuals with COVID-19. Please remember that we can help stop the spread of illness by following the guidance of the Orange County Department of Health including hand washing, avoiding gatherings, wearing masks and staying home when ill.

Due to the large number of employees and students under quarantine, the instructional program of S.S. Seward will be remote on Friday, March 19.

Employees who are not under quarantine will report for their regular schedules in the building. An update will be sent on Friday, March 19 which will articulate the instructional plan for next week.

Sincerely,

Jan Jehring
Superintendent of Schools
