One of the most critical responsibilities of a school board is hiring and evaluating a superintendent of schools. Finding the right person to lead our district is a task we take very seriously. We plan to use this space to keep you informed of the process as it unfolds and to solicit your input in essential ways. We intend to be as open and transparent with our process as possible.
Our goal is to find not only a capable and dynamic leader but one ideally suited to meet Florida where it is today and lead it forward to even greater levels of excellence in the future.
To identify, attract and evaluate the best candidates, the Board agreed it was important to bolster our search efforts with professional support. To that end, we have selected the Western New York Educational Service Council (WNYESC), located at the University at Buffalo, to assist us in this effort. Drs. Thomas Ramming and Teresa Lawrence will be facilitating this process with us. On Thursday, March 18, the Board met with Dr. Thomas Ramming to map out the Superintendent search timeline and process.
The next step will be to develop a profile of our ideal candidate and identify the challenges and opportunities unique to Florida. It is at this juncture that community input is critical. To that end, we will be soliciting input through two methods: focus groups, facilitated by Dr. Teresa Lawrence, and an online survey.
The online survey is available here and will be open until April 2, 2021. During that period, we strongly encourage everyone to respond and provide their input.
Focus group sessions will occur over the next two weeks. Please be on the lookout for more information.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this vital endeavor. We look forward to bringing you future updates as our search progresses.
