Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are thinking of you and your children and miss our students in our hallways, classrooms and fields, every day. School Closure

Under an Executive Order by Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus, school was closed through March 27, 2020. Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order which closed schools through March 31, 2020. We expect Governor Cuomo will make an announcement by the end of this week concerning this timeline, and we will share the information as it becomes available.

YMCA Emergency School-Age Childcare Services at Golden Hill Elementary

The YMCA will be providing emergency school-age childcare services at Golden Hill Elementary School for essential personnel beginning Monday, March 30, 2020.  Information about the service is included in this attachment and posted on the website. Costs for emergency childcare for Florida District residents who are essential workers will be defrayed.

Remote Learning

Teachers have been teaching remotely. Mrs. Lisack and Mr. Rheaume will post specific details related to each school. Mrs. Castine will be posting resources specifically for parents and students related to utilizing Google Classroom and other applications under the Remote Learning section on the District website. If you have specific questions related to the technology or experience difficulty accessing learning activities, please utilize the form on the District website for assistance. Someone from the Technology Department will contact you.

A letter from Golden Hill Principal Debbi Lisack

Dear Golden Hill Elementary Families,

As was mentioned last week,  we’re working on finding our “new way to stand” as we witness major historical events. I remain thankful to be a part of our Golden Hill Elementary community which continues to be collaborative and supportive.

Remember to refer to the FloridaUFSD website for the latest updates.  Our teachers continue to work diligently, with the support of the district, to provide you information and resources to guide your child’s continued learning at home.  It certainly can be challenging.

We are hoping your child logs on every day and works on the learning provided by our teachers. They can do so at a time and pace of their choosing. We do not want students to disengage with school and learning. Please help us by setting a schedule for your child to access and complete school work at home every school day. In essence, all of our teachers are available during the school day.  They are available to answer questions and provide guidance. Look for assignments to be posted by your child’s teacher(s).

This certainly can be overwhelming. Do the best that you can and continue to take one day at a time.  Please reach out to your teacher(s) to answer questions and clarify material.

As we receive more guidance about the length of the closure, we will keep you updated about our continuity of learning plan.  Please contact the teacher directly or me (if needed) via email at dlisack@floridaufsd.org.

I can’t wait to see everyone back at Golden Hill, eventually. Take care and stay healthy.

Thank you for your continued partnership, flexibility, and continued support. We got this.

Mrs. Debbi Lisack

Fellow Spartans,

All of us at Seward send our best wishes and good health to you all.  We are all here to help each other-Spartan Nation takes care of each other!

New Remote Learning Schedule starts Monday, March 30

We have developed a schedule to help guide you and your child through the new world of remote learning. While teachers will make themselves available outside of scheduled times, this schedule can help you and/or your child organize daily learning activities and facilitate access to their teachers.

How the schedule can help
  • Find out when a teacher will be available to answer questions and provide guidance.
  • Look for assignments posted regularly by each teacher and related information.
  • Teachers are available to answer questions, provide clarifications and check in on students.

Every day is a good day to learn

To keep our students engaged with school and learning each day, we encourage them to log in every day and complete all the learning activities/assignments prepared by their teachers. They work at their own pace and at time of their choosing, but we encourage setting up a daily and routine to help them stay focused and on track.

This schedule provides students with at least two days to complete any given assignment.

Teacher Teams

The schedule organizes teacher coverage in teams, by subjects. The Orange and Blue teams will alternate and be available every other day. The Orange Team will be on first, on Monday, March 30. You do not need to be logged on during each team’s scheduled times, but the schedule lets you know when teachers are available to answer questions, provide clarifications and check in on students.

ENL and special education teachers are included in this schedule and will be in contact via telephone, Google Classroom or email.

Orange Team
  • ELA, social studies, Spanish, technology and physical education/health
  • Available on even-numbered calendar days from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.
Blue Team
  • Mathematics, science, art, music, business and family and consumer science.
  • Available on odd numbered calendar days from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

Click here to view/copy and print the schedule. Post it in a visible place as a reminder. As of now, no assignments will be given during Spring Break.

In addition, each teacher will post their availability via Google Classroom or email.

As we receive additional guidance on school closures from New York State, we will update you on our continuity of learning plan.

Go Spartans,

S. Moore & M. Rheaume
