Here’s a sneak peek at some of the Golden Hill Elementary student artwork that will be displayed throughout the Village of Florida as a tribute to William Henry Seward!
Each May, the Florida Historical Society commemorates the life (and birthday!) of one the nation’s influential figures. This year, Seward Day will be celebrated Saturday, May 18.
The student artwork will be displayed in store and business windows throughout the village in the days leading up to the event, which will also include historical walking tours and presentations.
Seward, who was born in Florida, N.Y., was a U.S. Senator, Governor of New York, and Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. As Secretary of State, he pushed for the Emancipation Proclamation and negotiated the purchase of Alaska.
