Enrichment Planet

Fall 2017 Session

Enrichment Planet is a Building Leadership Team project, providing fun, exciting and stimulating programs for children enrolled in the Florida Union Free School District.

Please visit your child’s school building office to pick up a copy of the Enrichment Planet registration form.

Scheduling

Classes meet at different times and dates.  Please note the specific dates that each course meets.  Make-up Day:  If classes need to be cancelled due to weather or other reasons, every effort will be made to make up class time during remaining classes or by scheduling another date.

Enrollment

Classes will be filled on a first-come, first served basis.  Please complete and return the registration form to your child’s school with a deposit of $10.  If you have siblings both taking courses, please complete one form for each child.

Classes may be cancelled if minimum enrollment is not met.  In that case, students will be notified promptly and any fees collected will be refunded.  There are no refunds after a course begins.

Tuition

The number of students enrolled in each class determines the cost of each course.  The greater the number of students registered, the lower the cost will be to the individual student.  Once you have submitted registration, you are counted on in the enrollment fee calculations.  If a student decides to not attend once the course fees have been determined and confirmed, it makes it difficult to go back to the other class participants and have to charge additional fees to cover the cost of the child who withdrew.

The actual cost of your chosen class will be confirmed with you after registration closes.  You will be notified by email and/or telephone.   Please see individual course descriptions for estimated costs.

Please make checks payable to the Florida Union Free School District.

*There is a $10 deposit due upon registration. If the class does not take place, this deposit will be returned to you.

*Some classes will include a supply fee.  See individual course descriptions for details.

Intro to American Sign Language Grades 4-8

Students will learn basic signing skills, including the alphabet & numbers, and begin to build a vocabulary of close to 200 signs. Concepts covered include introducing yourself, exchanging information, describing places, identifying feelings and emotions, and talking about surroundings. Information on Deaf Culture and Awareness will also be integrated into this class. “Research (Acredolo & Goodwyn) followed 103 signing children from 11 months old through their eighth year. They were found to have an average IQ of 114, compared to 102 among their non-signing peers.” Sign language is a valuable tool at any age.

Middle School Yoga Grades 6-8

Yoga promotes strength, flexibility, improved concentration and creativity, as well as nurturing self esteem and inner peace. Students will learn to coordinate breath with postures, which helps calm the mind, release tension, and sharpen the memory.  Yoga helps adolescence and teens to make healthy choices in life by developing self-awareness, emotional resilience, healthy body image, and compassion, through asana, (pose) breathing practices, (pranayama) meditation, and community building.

A mix of sitting, standing, twisting, balancing, back and forward bending poses will be included, as well as cooperative and partner work, games, breathing, and mindfulness exercises. Come have fun with us as we share this wonderful 5000 year old practice in a fun, friendly and safe environment.
